Tuesday, September 14th Review

Class started today with our first blog activity. I shared the assignment with the class, and we discussed how the whole thing is going to work. My sample of quality was from The Secret Life of Bees, a great book. After that I passed out the David Copperfield tests, reminding the class to make sure they take the time to plan their essays. Everyone turned their tests in by the end of the period. Homework: finish posters for tomorrow's presentation. Evin volunteered to do the next blog.
Oh- I found a website you might like: http://www.cliffsnotes.com/WileyCDA/
There are free Cliff's notes there for a number of books.

The Year Begins

This is the first AP Blog entry for the year. The blog will be a place for us to share quality writing, keep track of what we've been doing, and discuss interesting topics. I'm going to start by doing the first "log" of the year.

The Secret Life of Bees
Sue Monk Kidd

I hadn’t been out to the hives before, so to start off she gave me a lesson in what she called “bee yard etiquette.” She reminded me that the world was really one big bee yard, and the same rules worked fine in both places: Don’t be afraid, as no life-loving bee wants to sting you. Still, don’t be an idiot; wear long sleeves and long pants. Don’t swat. Don’t even think about swatting. If you feel angry, whistle. Anger agitates, while whistling melts a bee’s temper. Act like you know what you’re doing, even if you don’t. Above all, send the bees love. Every little thing wants to be loved.
